Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 18th district since 1995, recently expressed her views on social media regarding former President Donald Trump's pardons related to the January 6 Capitol riots. In a series of tweets, Lofgren criticized these actions and highlighted specific instances of violence during the event.
On January 21, 2025, Rep. Lofgren shared her concerns about Trump's pardons extending to individuals involved in violent acts during the Capitol riots. She stated: "That Trump’s Jan. 6 pardons extend to some of the worst, most violent criminals that day is truly horrible." She specifically mentioned Julian Khater, whose actions were linked to the death of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, expressing outrage over his pardon and characterizing Trump as "a sick, small man."
Later that day, Lofgren provided further evidence of violence against law enforcement officers during the riots by sharing video screenshots. On January 21, she tweeted: "Here are 4 series of video screenshots of rioters hitting, punching, or striking police..." The tweet listed individuals involved in these acts and included visual evidence supporting her claims.
On January 23, Lofgren reiterated her criticism of Trump's pardons with another tweet stating: "On day one, Donald Trump pardoned violent criminals who stormed the Capitol & attacked police officers." She emphasized that those who engaged in physical assaults on law enforcement are now free within communities.
