San Jose Sharks forward William Eklund scored a remarkable goal against the Boston Bruins on March 13, batting his own rebound into the net while falling onto his back.
The play drew attention for its unusual display of skill and athleticism. Such moments are often highlighted as examples of exceptional effort in professional hockey.
Eklund described the sequence by saying, “Late in the shift came 1-on-1 and just trying to beat my guy and end up batting it out of the air. Was it on purpose to get it bardown? I don’t know. I tried to hit it, and I hit it this time.”
The goal began with Eklund carrying the puck up the right side before taking a shot that was stopped by Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman. As Eklund became entangled with Swayman’s stick, he managed to track the airborne puck and bat it into the net while falling away from the crease.
Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky compared Eklund’s effort to a famous moment in hockey history, saying, “A little bit of [Bobby Orr]. That’s a goal that you’ll see on highlight reels for a long, long time. That’s one of the nicest goals that I’ve seen.”
Such plays can energize both teams and fans, serving as memorable highlights throughout an NHL season.
