Rep. Zoe Lofgren, who represents California’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media accounts addressing local conservation efforts, national policy decisions, and university legal actions.
On March 6, 2026, Lofgren highlighted her engagement with regional leaders to discuss environmental initiatives: “Last week, I talked with leaders from California Central Coast Joint Venture, Bay Planning Commission, and @ABCbirds to discuss ways that the federal government can support bird conservation efforts in #CA18 and protect our region’s beautiful biodiversity.”
Later that day, she criticized federal spending priorities related to foreign conflict: “Donald Trump’s war in Iran isn’t just illegal, it’s expensive – costing taxpayers about $1,000,000,000 PER DAY and sending gas prices soaring. Republicans can find money for bombs but not for Americans’ healthcare?”
On March 7, Lofgren expressed support for San Jose State University amid a legal dispute with the federal government: “I firmly stand with @SJSU and the lawsuit they have just filed against the federal government to prevent punitive action against the university. The Trump Administration is attempting to freeze their federal funding based on alleged Title IX violations during the 2022-24”
Lofgren has served as a member of Congress since 1995 after succeeding Don Edwards. Before her tenure in Congress, she was part of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. Born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently residing in San Jose at age 75, Lofgren holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
