U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren, who has represented California’s 18th district since 1995, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account on January 9, 2026. The posts addressed gun violence, healthcare legislation, and recent economic data.

In her first post of the day, Lofgren reflected on the anniversary of the shooting involving former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. She wrote on January 9: “15 years ago, my friend and colleague @GabbyGiffords was shot and six others were killed in a tragic shooting. I remember that day all too well, and I stand with her in the fight to end gun violence and political violence in all its forms.”

Later that afternoon, Lofgren commented on legislative developments regarding healthcare policy. On January 9 she stated: “Democrats led the House in restoring the ACA tax credits last night, but now the Senate needs to act.

Leader Thune must not delay a second longer in providing this relief for millions of Americans.”

In a subsequent post on January 9, Lofgren criticized President Trump’s handling of the economy following new employment figures. She wrote: “Another weak jobs report for President Trump. Last year was officially the worst year for job gains outside of a recession since 2003.

It’s time to end the tariffs, and it’s time to end Trump’s failed economic experiment.”

Lofgren has served continuously in Congress since succeeding Don Edwards in 1995 after previously serving on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. Born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently residing in San Jose at age 75, she holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
