Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 18th district since 1995, recently shared updates on her official X account regarding local community initiatives and national policy concerns.
On December 1, 2025, Lofgren highlighted her visit to a Monterey County nonprofit: “It was a pleasure to visit @wonderwoodranch in Monterey County to learn about the equine therapy and nurturing environment they provide to local youth. I’m always proud to support funding for impactful services such as this in our community.”
Later that day, she addressed energy policy and its impact on Americans’ finances: “Trump is making Americans’ utility bills go up with his attacks on renewable energy. About 14 million Americans now have severe utility debt. Republicans in Congress need to act on this before more families have their power shut off.” This post reflects ongoing debates over energy costs and the role of renewable resources in the United States.
In an evening post on December 1, Lofgren criticized recent changes to federal food assistance programs: “Republicans slashed food assistance by $187 billion in their Big Ugly Law. Taking food away from millions of children, veterans, and seniors is immoral, and that’s why I’m an original co-sponsor of @RepJahanaHayes’ bill to reverse these disastrous cuts to SNAP.”
Lofgren has represented California’s 18th District since replacing Don Edwards in 1995 and previously served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She was born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose. Lofgren holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
