Representative Zoe Lofgren, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 18th district since 1995, has used her social media platform to highlight legislative and scientific concerns as the year draws to a close.
On December 9, 2025, Lofgren addressed the limited time left in the congressional session and criticized Republican leadership for not addressing healthcare costs. She wrote, “Congress has just 9 legislative days left in this year, and Republicans still don’t have a plan to extend ACA subsidies to lower Americans’ skyrocketing healthcare costs.”
Later that day, she raised concerns about proposed changes at NASA’s Goddard Center under the Trump Administration. In her post, she stated, “The Trump Administration is wrecking America’s scientific leadership by trying to dismantle NASA’s Goddard Center. @RepGlennIvey and I are calling for an inspector general investigation into these lab closures.” She followed up with another post sharing further documentation: “Read the letter to the NASA Inspector General: https://t.co/akrR4P25zk” (all tweets dated December 9, 2025).
Lofgren’s comments come as Congress faces end-of-year deadlines with only nine legislative days remaining in its calendar. Her remarks on healthcare refer specifically to ongoing debates about extending Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies aimed at reducing out-of-pocket expenses for Americans.
Regarding her advocacy for NASA’s Goddard Center, Lofgren’s call for an inspector general investigation highlights broader concerns over potential impacts on U.S. scientific research capabilities.
Born in San Mateo in 1947 and currently residing in San Jose, Lofgren has served continuously in Congress since replacing Don Edwards in 1995. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD).
