Representative Zoe Lofgren, who has served California’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress since 1995, criticized the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers in a series of posts on social media this week.
On November 3, Lofgren wrote, “It shouldn’t take court rulings for the Trump administration to understand that starving Americans for political purposes is wrong. It’s time for Republicans to get back to Washington and work with Democrats.”
The following day, she addressed claims made by former President Donald Trump regarding food prices: “Trump keeps saying grocery prices are ‘way down’. Anyone who’s been in a grocery store knows that’s a lie. Trump’s more worried about his billionaire friends than the Americans being crushed by his tariffs.” This post was published on November 4.
Later that same day, Lofgren commented on congressional spending priorities: “The Republican agenda: starving hungry Americans while giving $40 billion to Argentina.”
Lofgren, who was born in San Mateo, California in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose, has had a long career in public service. Before her election to Congress, she served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She holds degrees from Stanford University (BA) and Santa Clara University (JD). Since taking office after Don Edwards in 1995, Lofgren has been an advocate for her district and frequently comments on national policy debates.
