U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren, who serves California’s 18th district, criticized former President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson in a series of posts on October 15, 2025, addressing the ongoing government shutdown, actions in Congress, and recent policy decisions.
In her first post, Lofgren stated, “We’re 15 days into a government shutdown, and what is Trump doing? Hosting billionaires to fundraise for his ballroom. People’s healthcare costs are soaring and this is his priority.” (October 15, 2025).
Later the same day, she questioned the actions of Speaker Johnson regarding Capitol Police recognition: “Speaker Johnson refuses to hang this plaque in the Capitol to honor the Capitol Police who saved our democracy on January 6th. Why hasn’t he done so when it’s required by law?” (October 15, 2025).
Addressing energy policy, Lofgren posted, “Trump is retaliating against Democrats by driving up EVERYONE’S energy costs. Congress needs to stand up for Americans crushed by his economy. I am supporting @RepBarragan’s bill to reinstate all awards terminated by Trump’s Energy Department.” (October 15, 2025).
Lofgren has represented California’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress since 1995 and previously served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors from 1981 to 1994. She was born in San Mateo, California in 1947 and currently resides in San Jose. Lofgren holds a BA from Stanford University and a JD from Santa Clara University.
